The Ban of Miley Cyrus’ Concert in the Dominican Republic Sparks Debate

In Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The government commission in charge of monitoring public performances is canceling a September 13 concert by Miley Cyrus on moral grounds.

The commission stated on Thursday that they took action because Cyrus often engages in activities that violate morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law.

Tickets for the concert in the capital city are priced between $27 and $370, and they have been available for purchase since July.

Some critics have described Cyrus’ onstage behavior, such as twerking and inappropriate grabbing, as distasteful.

A representative for Cyrus did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Concert organizers in the Dominican Republic declined to comment on the matter. The commission in the past has banned from the airwaves songs it deems vulgar, including some by Calle 13 of Puerto Rico.
